Laptops :: Mouse (touchpad) not accesible in X-win.
Greetings everybody,
Damn Small Linux seems good given its small size. Well, unfortunately I can't use it. It boots into X-windows but does not let me use the synaptics touchpad properly - only horizontal movement that too at the botton of the screen is permitted so I can't do anything. I can bring up some menu using the right touch pad key but can't select anything on that menu either not even the last item. I am using a compaq presario 900 US laptop. Anybody encountered the same problem and know a fix? I am using DSL version 0.9.2. I am booting from a CD. This is not a hard-disk install.
Thank you,
regards,
Prasad
Try using the XFree86.dsl extension from the repository. Synaptics should be supported by XFree86. Please read the associated *.info file because the installation is not a "one click" operation.
Hi cbagger01,
can you please point me to a extensions for dummies or a readme or how-to of extensions. I come from a redhat/fedora world. I tried to find how extensions work but probably missed it so... please.
Thank you,
regards,
Prasad
Hello,
thanks cbagger01. I was able to install XFree86 from the command line using:
mydsl-load XFree86.dsl.
my synaptics touchpad works perfect with the XConfig-4.vesa configuration file.
Thank you again,
regards,
Prasad
Hi
I use an old Compaq Armada that has a flakey keyboard mouse. It moves the pointer all by itself. Even if you use and external PS2 type mouse. My solution was to use a serial mouse. I use CTRL-ALT-BKSP to exit X then run xsetup.sh to configure the mouse. Type startx to restart X.
Serial mice are pretty cheap if you can find one.
good luck
