Laptops :: IBM ThingPad = freeze linux

i have IBM ThingPad 390 (233mhz,64MB Ram) and my problem is in Restart or Shutdown DamnSmall Linux 1.2.. i click to Restart or Shutdown system and system FREEZE.... i dont know restart or shutdown system other style..

please help

btw: DSL is Best :)

try searching the lilo or grub handbooks for reference to using a special parameter that relates to the "IBM Thinkpad" issue... its well known tho off the top of my head i do not know the paramters exact wording or i'd just tell you.

all else fails, d/l the ubuntu distro, write it to a cdrw then boot it and look at its options when it first tries to boot the cd.  In there in one of the screens (Screen F5 or F6 iirc) is a reference to this exact same command which is then passed to the kernel (i think) via grub.

i dont have ubuntu distro.. i am newbie user in linux ..

and i find special parameters for lilo.conf for thinkpad.. all special parameters is only for specific hardware.. i dont know which have use for my thinkpad that dont freeze system when reboot or shutdown my notebook... (all unsave data will lost)

you have to put "floppy=thinkpad" into the bootup command if booting from cd, (no quotes tho) or put that on the append line in LILO or at the end of the kernel= line of GRUB in its menu.lst  file.
