ps I have been installing the os by pulling the harddrive out and placing it into my Presario laptop and the install I put that harddrive back into the Toshiba and re-config the hardware.. is there a easyer way of doing the install? The toshiba im unable to get a cd/rom to boot up...

Thanks everyone for your 2 cents

I believe dsl will work very well for what you have described. It will definetely run faster with dsl as it is very effecient and works very well with older hardware.

As far as the apps that you have mentioned I believe the vast majority of those can be found in the dsl extensions, which are highly recommended.

I cant offer you much advice with the circumstances of your installation. I dont have very much experience installing without a cdrom.

DSL (with myDSL extensions installed):

firefox YES
thunderbird mail YES
open office YES
cups printer YES
plug and play YES
gaim YES
irc YES
k3b YES
wireless tools.. YES
and SPEED YES

Sounds like a good fit for your needs :)

did you trie pressing F2 on boot-up? this should show you a menu for selecting the boot device... (at least on my toshiba portege 7220)

good luck
Thomas
