Laptops :: Screen appears in half the screen

I've been trying to get DSL to work on my Sony Vaio PCF-F390 laptop and I'm having no luck. Whenever I boot from the pen drive I get a screen that looks like this (click to enlarge):

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Have you tried a framebuffering mode?

look at the F3 screen for a full list, and choose a vga=xxx code to suit your needs.

Then, when Xsetup is run, choose Xfbdev.
