Laptops :: Compaq Armada 7800 Sound

Hello,  I installed DSL to my hardrive and got the sound to work for playing CDs but when I try to play an MP3 or WAV file I get no sound.  I tried with XMMS, which I use to play the CDs, and mpg123.  The mixer adjusts the volume fine and I have muted the microphone (which did give a loud feedback).  I have not tried any other type of sound except with the PC speaker for beeps and such.

Any Ideas would be appreciated?

This might help

The core distro is different, however the modules and IO settings should be the same

If it does work using this then a new entry on that site should be posted doncha think

Oh...also I dont think the DSL version of XMMS has mp3 support man, have you heard it make any sound at all???

No sound at all.  But I did not get any sound from mpg123 either (of course I am not sure about the settings for mpg123 either).  I have not tested mpg123 for making any sound so I am not sure it would at all.  It keeps telling me that it can't load libasound and asks if it is in use.

Thanks Brian,

I checked and it is the same settings I used when I set up the sound card using sndconfig in DSL.  I think that since my sound is working then it is probably just an application problem that I am having.  Thanks for the tip about XMMS.  That supports the app config theory that I now think I am having.

Brian
