Apt-get :: apt-get upgrade and usb install

Hi,

I've got a USB install of DSL. Running apt-get upgrade gets a ton of upgraded packages and installs them. But these upgrades don't seem to be saved away on a reboot.

Is there a way to make sure the upgrades are saved?

(bonus question: is there a way to upgrade from my DSL version to the new 1.2.1. version using apt?)
