31  Damn Small Linux / User Feedback / Re: Can't find a way to save a downloaded file to a floppy disk? on: January 20, 2013, 07:06:46 PM
 Huh
Even though I received a Warning that this post is an old one I've faith that John or someone else will read it shortly; if I'm wrong I'll repost it as a new thread later on.

The other day looked to my side & saw that old HP laptop that lacks a HDD & remembered the 64MB MuVo MP3 pendrive that holds DSL (old) & thought that a good span of time had past already since my last involvement with DSL or that laptop..., so here I'm.

The HP is working OK AWA the pendrive & the DSL inside. Is there something new in "browsers" within the last DSL released? Java is so widely used in websites that it has become something like a standard, so it should be included in recent releases (I already read about the vulnerabilities --it should be fixed or widely substituted by something else).

Thanks for any info around this!

Thanks for replying, John!

I'll fill my days with other experiments but will try to keep track of DSL, I like it very much.

Thank you for your great effort & good luck with your goals!.

I've DSL4.4.10.iso, but in the pendrive I've DSL4.2.5. What's the difference between the two? Is it an update for fixing some bugs? Stability?

How hard it would be to use that newer iso file for updating the older one if at all possible, if I'm using just Puppy Linux 528.005? My mental scheme is as follows:

1- mount the pendrive;
2- mount the sda5 hdd partition where that iso exists;
3- mount the DSL4.4.10.iso file;
4- copy some files from the new iso to the appropriate location in the pendrive.

Could this procedure be effective?

Thanks for any info on this!

Those are good news for DSL. I think I'll wait then until a new version/release comes out.

Still, I've the curiosity to know, if it's possible, to uninstall BonEcho & Dillo & then install something else more updated within DSL itself.

Thank you for having the forum alive!

I'm using a nx9010 HPCompaq laptop which lacks a hdd. Booted from a flash pendrive DSL2.4.31.

Spent about 2 hrs trying to do it but finally I learned something: I even forgot how I managed to format the disk in the first place...

Any tips for a newbie?

I also would like to know 2 other things:
1) how to update BonEcho to enable it to deal with web pages that need jre plugin?;
2) how to update DSL itself (have a current iso file at hand already)?

The referenced pendrive is just 64MB in size & it's almost completely full so need to do things very carefully!
