RE: WiFi - grindstone - 03-20-2025

OK -- Broadcom 4313 explains it.  Shouldn't have replied when I was up too many hours--apology.  You just need to "unblock" all the Broadcomm stuff (Control Center->Maintenance->Network Assistant then the Linux Drivers tab).

Second, we may have to undo any Ceni residual things that I steered you into.
A) So make sure to choose Connman again (CC->Network->Select Wifi Application->Connman)
B) Inspect the file /etc/network/interfaces -- if it does't look like this vanilla one, make it look like this and then reboot.

Been a very long day, bankers can be frustrating Sad
I looked a the Broadcom drivers, and they are already unblocked.

went thru the rest of what you said, and I give up,
the ACER is going in the trash bin.

my friend is as old as I am, he barely manages to use a cellphone, a retired truck driver, all his life.

I will find a Dell Laptop that will do the job and send that to him.
just wish I had not bought a new battery for this Pile of crap old ACER.

it just will not accept a WPA password, it insists on PSK

many thanks for you efforts, I am done with this project.

Well, it's up to you but I wouldn't pitch-in the towel yet if you haven't. Take one last hack with a usb load of either AntiX base or Antix full. They have firmware that you don't have (yet) (but could if you could phone-tether or use a different dongle to get the "DSL File Restore" done. FWIW. Just a hunch, but my guess is that the authentication method is a driver failure.

RE: WiFi - AZgl1800 - 03-21-2025

okay,
I don't dump stuff immediately,
I wait to see what might show up,
and you have offered two more options.
Will get back after I work with those.

Highly appreciate your Time and Effort towards this bump in the road.
I have been using linux for about 6 years, ever since Win8 was announced, I jumped ship...

RE: WiFi - AZgl1800 - 03-21-2025

Okay, making some progress.
anit-X base 32 bit ISO installed on this little puppy just fine, so we have WiFi connection now.

but SeaMonkey is a super PITA, it refuses to connect to any website that I want to go to.
it claims all websites are UnTrusted....
Even though I disable all of those checks, it refuses to open up.

So, I dropped to Terminal and downloaded Firefox.tar.xz but I can't seem to get it to install.
I am out of my wheelhouse now.

Think I will download the 32bit full pkg and see if the little ACER can handle that.
Base does NOT have a Package Manager, to allow me to get a different browser.

I have hated SeaMonkey since it was invented, it has to go.

RE: WiFi - AZgl1800 - 03-21-2025

Hip Hip Hooray.

It took the Full version of Anti-X,
deleted that funky SeaMonkey and installed Firefox.
Glad that the Package Manager knew about Firefox, it also shows the ESR version, a nice item.

got it tuned up, and packed to mail out tmw,
my Elderly buddy, who is my age, a bit older actually, I am 82....

he is anxious to get off of a cellphone Smile

thank you so much for help me out.

RE: WiFi - grindstone - 03-21-2025

You're too fast for me today, but glad you resolved something. When I logged-on, I was going to offer you the big tar file to apply to your DSL but... If it weren't packed-up already, I'd be after you to find him a thinner browser like we have with DSL. Would've also asked to see inxi -N again Smile At any rate, good work and thanks for the patience. I use Netsurf a lot in DSL. Dillo sometimes. Badwolf sometimes. Firefox ESR when absolutely needed for some compatibility reason. Quite a bit of time in w3m text browser, etc. Sounds like "full" may be a better fit for your friend if he doesn't glaze-over at all the menu entries. Thanks for the update and thanks for saving another machine from the landfills.

RE: WiFi - AZgl1800 - 03-30-2025

just a Happy note to the follow up.
the little ACER Aspire One is a 32bit pc, 1gB RAM

I replaced the earth worm speedy? HDD with a SSD for $39.00 off Amazon.

the full version of Anti-X installed w/o any issues other than it is a strange version of Linux, compared to Linux Mint Cinnamon which is my favorite Distro...

my truck driver friend received it last Monday, called him on the phone and Walked him thru getting the WiFi connected.

He is as happy as a pig in a corn bin....
Thank you all for your help.
