Try doing sudo apt install linux-firmware-nonfree anyway. It will probably work. If not, we can try to fix the time.

Now that you mention it, the time is off by a few hours (never got that far, since It's a new install). I'll fix that
tomorrow and give it a shot. Thanks.

Yan, I corrected the region and time and installed linux-firmware-nonfree successfully, then used arandr to set
preferred resolution and saved to "default". It worked beautifully! Many thanks. You people are superstars!
