DSL 2024 Alpha - gkaisersoze - 02-09-2024 Loved and used DSL and DSL-N back in the day, excited to see it up in this new iteration and as I have used antiX for years enjoy the hybrid of both, thanks John! My issues currently (and I know we're talking -alpha- so not a full-on release yet) is Badwolf freezes on my old Thinkpad (without hard drive so using live usb). I installed elinks using apt and it worked flawlessly! Tried to also install Firefox, wouldn't install, neither FF nor Firefox ESR. Thanks for your excellent work ![]() RE: DSL 2024 Alpha - John - 02-09-2024 Thanks for the feedback! Are you running out of ram? What are the specs on your Thinkpad? If you are looking for something that has a bit more capability than Dillo but a less ram needs than Badwolf you may want to try Netsurf. RE: DSL 2024 Alpha - gkaisersoze - 02-09-2024 Wc ![]() By the way, I understand it's possible I have either 2 or 4 gigs of ram, just note a little under 4 when I use "free" in terminal. RE: DSL 2024 Alpha - John - 02-09-2024 Three gigs of ram should be plenty. I do not have a T410 to test with, but I do have a T420 and it boots from a USB and runs Badwolf without issue. I did have to run isohybrid on the iso image ahead of time though because the iso doesn't have syslinux on it. sudo apt update sudo apt install syslinux-utils isohybrid dsl-2024.alpha.iso After that, I just used the regular DD method outlined here: https://linuxiac.com/how-to-create-bootable-usb-drive-using-dd-command/ In Alpha 2 I'll have a script to do this. Please let me know if you figure out what the issue is with the T410, I should probably gather a selection of old laptops to test on. RE: DSL 2024 Alpha - dsl_mumbai - 02-10-2024 the command "isohybrid dsl-2024.alpha.iso" worked for me. syslinux-utils were already installed in my "Knoppix 9.1" Operating System. Now I have DSL installed in a USB which is working in my SONY VAIO VGN Laptop, purchased back in the year 2010, with 4Gb RAM DSL slow to boot, fast after installation. Thanks to you both! So this a.m. I had a bit of time and booted into DSL failsafe, updated apt, loaded elinks, netsurf and Firefox, all worked flawlessly. I must admit this is -not- w. my old Thinkpad t410 but via live usb on my HP EliteBook w. 4 gigs of ram. She FLIES with DSL and in fact I'm writing this now on it via NetSurf. On to persistance on this or another usb stick ![]() |
