I'm new to DSL, and frankly to Linux.  I've only used Ubuntu and GoblinX before this.  I've been having a good time the last couple of days fiddling with DSL 3.01 running in VMPlayer.  I created a 4gb drive image with Qemu and did an HD install with a swap partition.  It's been fun decreasing the available RAM and seeing how well it runs.  Right now, I have it at 48mb, and I'm able to use Firefox, Macromedia Flash, and even the Java Runtime Environment.  I'm posting right now from this configuration.  Earlier, I was testing it at Noggin.com, which is fairly Flash intensive.  It's hard to believe this works without thrashing the hard drive all to hell.  I'm wondering now if VMWare is swapping in RAM or something, because it doesn't seem like 48mb should be enough memory.

I can't wait to get home and test it on some older machines.  One of my computers has 48mb RAM and runs Windows 95.  I also have a very old Casio laptop with 32mb RAM.  That will be interesting.

I love the desktop themes too, btw.  Some of them are gorgeous.

I guess I'm just in disbelief that DSL works so well in such a small amount of RAM.  I hope so.  I would love to resurrect some old computers I have laying around. :)
