Hi all.

I have two computers at home.

My main computer is a 2.8 GHZ dual core pentium D. It currently runs Zenwalk Linux and Ubuntu Edgy. I tried Damn Small Linux on it, but it doesnt' work.
When I press ENTER when the prompt comes up, a black screen appears with 2 Tuxes and a flashing cursor and it doesn't do anything. The mobo is ASUS P5VDC-X, video card Nvidia 6800. While this isn't too important, I'd like to know why it doesn't work.

I had better results with the same cd in another pc. Intel Celeron 333 MHZ with 196 mb of RAM. The black screen had only 1 Tux on it, and it booted up to the fluxbox screen very fast. In fact, I tried out Damn Small Linux because Windows XP had filled out the 6 gb harddrive on it, and the 196 mb of RAM was full to the brim, in short it was as slow as molasses. And my sister wanted it to play her music!!
I mounted the directory and could play the files just fine with xmms...and it was just plain smooth. Excellent work guys!

When booting your Pentium D computer, try using frame buffering for your video.

At the boot: prompt enter fb1024x768

If that works, the next screen you will see after the boot process is the "DSL X Setup".  Choose the Xfbdev xserver option, and then answer the prompts for your mouse and keyboard setup.

On my eMachines Athlon XP PC, I have an onboard Nvidia chip. I am using a LCD monitor. That is the way I got past having a blank screen.
