I just saw the time zone entry in the DSL wiki when I was searching for something else.

At the moment /usr/share/zoneinfo contains three subdirectories there: US, Europe, and Asia with about 30 supported zones (dixit wiki)

Just a suggestion, but in the interests of keeping DSL trim AND pleasing everybody - could we have the lib6c subdirectory (/etc?) that contains GMT-11, GMT-10,...GMT+10, GMT+11 instead?

This way everybody that uses DSL could find their time zone  :D

Just curious: do the named timezones have any advantage over the lib6c versions (aside from the fact that they are named which makes it a trifle easier to figure out which one to use for some of us).  That is, do they contain any information about summer/winter time?  If not then I wholeheartedly agree with the original post.  And even if they do, a short wiki post, or a blurb in the local DSL documentation, or for that matter a skinny lua timezone selector might be all that is neccesary for DSL use worldwide.

ya, there is a difference... the named ones know how to deal with Daylight Saving time for the region it represents. Which leads right to my next question.... The USA has moved the rollover time for Daylight Saving time, and Canada in there normal fashion has followed suit.... It might be a good idea to get the new timezone files for the base distro. Just a thought...
