I have probably twenty boxes that I use for dedicated terminals that have windows 98 or less on them and I carry alot of different tools and distro releases with me in a cd carrier.

For example I keep dsl 3.4 because it is the latest stable release
and Deli 0.7.2 because it will install on a 32meg ram machine with 31 meg to spare hahaha....

It would be really useful if I could find out what the different past levels
of dsl memory requirements where so I could say keep dsl 1.1 for boxes that only have 16meg or dsl 2.2 for boxes that only have 32meg
rather than getting screwed while out on a pacific island somewhere with no internet at all and finding out too late that whoa
dsl 3.4 requires a minimum of 14 terabytes to boot LOL.......

The ram req has pretty much stayed the same over versions, text mode boots fine with 16mb still in 3.4..

Not a whole lot of changes in default memory use, however...

Prior to v2.1 DSL started many fluxbox slit prorgrams, each is a new process, each using memory.

Starting with v3.3 DSL offers the lowram boot option.

JWM uses less ram than fluxbox. With some combinations of flux and apps there have been documented memory leaks.

So, moving forward, I have tried to offer more less ram options.

Of course, you can always boot to runlevel 2.
