As you're probably aware, DSL is a remaster of the Knoppix distribution, which has been around a wee bit longer.  Since Knoppix has been around longer, and has a few more users, there is more documentation available.  There is a doc for creating a custom kernel called Knoppix Custom Kernel Howto.  You'd probably have really good results by following those docs.

P.S.  Just because somebody doesn't spoon feed you the information you require doesn't mean that they don't know, or don't care.  It probably means that a smidgen of common sense combined with the google search engine will find the results you desire.

As an aside, it's generally considered juvenille and rude to insult people because you don't get what you want on your timetable.  John's already busted his ass to produce a good distribution and there are several helpful people in this forum that will go out of their way to help those who genuinely need it.  Attitudes like this won't make you any friends and won't get you information any more quickly.

Agreed.  However, I don't think that the previous comments were meant with any malcontent, simply inexperience.

Thanks anyhow for the pointers and the stark advice.

baogen....

I would be interested to find out how you managed to get the system to boot from the USB device.  Getting the distro to fit on a stick is obviously not a problem, but how do you get the system to boot from it?  It there a tutorial on this or something?
