FIRST - HOT DAMN SMILEY L33TS!!!!

DSL ROCKS! I've made it work on anything from a 120MHz to a 2.4GHz with standardly AWESOME results. ing well done!!!

Ok, one bone to pick - not bad when you're looking at a dinosaur-sized pile of bones... :-)

Sound on older laptops - I've tried v0.7.3 now on an IBM Thinkpad (mobile-266/64MB) a Compaq Presario 1265 (ditto) and a Toshiba Satelite Pro 445CDX (P200/80MB.)

It does not matter if I run sndconfig via a terminal or outside of X, I invariably get a Seg Fault. Invariably.

Now, I'm not bright enough to know where to look for the problem, but if you point in the right direction, I can get there...

BTW - for others installing on similarly aged laptops that run in 800x600, take a tip and start the CD with the command "vga=788" so it'll size your video correctly and in 16-bit color. Boot with this and you won't have the problem of you video wanting to run off the screen into a 1024x768 picture on your 800x600 laptop display.

The sndconfig program does have issues...
Rumor has it that a later version, available via apt-get,
does not behave this way...
Other options are sound-card specific...
We would need to know the brand/model of your sound card
to assist you further...

As a start, try typing "modprobe sb" in a shell...
then restart X, with ctrl-alt-bksp, then startx...
If you see the wmix app in the lower hand corner, your very close...

Other options to try are using the "insmod" command with the
driver for your soundcard...
They are located in your
"/lib/modules/2.4.22xfs/kernel/drivers/sound" directory...

Do the boot options "fb800x600" or "dsl vga=normal"
help with your 800x600 vs 1024x768 issues on laptops?
