Hi,

as a noob I don't quite understand how can I use my own custom modeline in the xf86config-file instead of the default way the x is set up automatically. I have edited the xf86config, but it doesn't change anything :( How can I make it effective?

The tiny xserver in DSL doesn't use a config file. Everything is sent to it via commandline options.  The command is in /home/dsl/.xserverrc

You might find that the x server allows the display of graphics at a certain resolution, and the use of a mouse, and that's about it.  If you want anything more specific, try xfree86.

Ok, I just downloaded the Mydsl version of the xfree86. I also downloaded the config-app and ran the config, so now I have a example file of the xf86config-file. The question still remains: How can I make the dsl use this "x-server setting" and my custom modeline instead of the Tiny "default one"? The question maybe totally silly, but like I said, I'm still in a very noobish stage ;)

You should read the info file for any mydsl extension you want to use...if there is anything special needed, it would be mentioned in that file.  In this case, you will need to edit .xserverrc, or copy the one installed by xfree86.dsl.
