Booting from CD.

During modprobe I get error message 'can't locate block-2-major' then X can't initiate wnen boot complete.

Text mode works fine, even with the boot error.

I get that error when booting from a PC that does not have a floppy drive attached.

Otherwise, it boots normally, so this error is probably unrelated to your problem.

Got it. Machine has integrated graphic controller, Intel 828475g.

Maybe others will benefit from my dinking around.

Booted with fb800x600 then xfbdev setup, got it to work. :;):

Just one question:
is the image stable? The reason I ask is because I had a little pulsing show up on one of my machines with integrated video, and it seemed to be affected by mouse and keyboard movements too.
