If it's just blanking, add this to $HOME/.xinitrc:
xset s off

EDIT: sorry, i had "b" in there...

I've ended up with

xset -dpms                      # Disable DPMS
xset s off                      # Disable screen blanking

in .xinitrc, now if I only can make Xwin execute java faster...
