If you need to install gtk 2+, use apt-get or Synaptic.

I don't know the exact name of the package, but you can try:

sudo apt-get install gtk2

and see what happens.

Otherwise, install Synaptic from the menu, scroll down to the "G" packages and choose the gtk2 package and click on install and proceed.
