One thing I really like from DamnSmall Linux is that it uses my favourite window manager, Fluxbox. And I love more the enhancement buttons on the desktop that John has selected for us all. Now I need to add more buttons, and if I can make them load on the startup, I'll be a happy man.

I've been fooling around, trying to add more of those icons and buttons, but I can't find where they are configured. Ok, I'll admit it, I'm better on KDE than on Fluxbox, but I can't make KDE work on the small HD I'm working on. So, can anybody tell me where can I add or at least change the appz on the desktop?
And if you know how to make the dead keys work, it will be even better (I still can't make they work as supposed, and I need to write my spanish accents on X, instead of the shell and vi)

Check out your /home/damnsmall/.xtdesktop directory. The desktop icon files are located there.

Generally, there is an icon picture file, for example: scite.gif

Then there is a text configuration file, for example: scite.lnk

It is very easy to copy one of the text files and then modify the newly created file so that the icon will have a different name and so that it will start up a different program.

Use nano or Scite to edit the text file.

If you use Scite, you will not be able to see hidden directories listed (like .xtdesktop) in the File -> Open dialog box.

To view hidden directories, do this:

Start Scite. Bring up the dialog box by choosing File -> Open from the menu.

Click inside the File Selection: box at the bottom of the window so that your cursor is blinking inside it.

Press and release the period key on your keyboard. You should now see a period "." inside the File Selection box.

Press the TAB key on your keyboard.

All of the hidden files and directories should suddenly appear in the window and you can choose them just like any other normal file or directory.
