That did the trick. Thanks for the info.
The main problem I had was with navigating through emelfm while accessing the DSL box over vnc. Apparently, in emelfm you must first highlight a directory, *then* double-click it to go there. I originally thought I was dealing with a vnc speed issue.
Now if I can get the center mouse button click (simultaneous left- and right-click, in my case) to work over vnc...
