I can boot fine from the cd, but no joy with X:

"cannot connect to X server"

I have tried editing the XF86Config file without success (read-only). I do have another config file on another machine (that I know works with my nvidia setup), and I could, in theory, copy this across with scp.

So basically, all I need (I think) is to be able to copy/edit the config file. And to know which one: in /etc/X11 or in /KNOPPIX... (they're symlinked, I assume).

Suggestions anyone?

OK, I had an idiiot moment.

Of course I couldn't edit the config file -- I was booting from the CD!

But I did solve the problem after all. Originally, I rebooted into the CD after burning it from my Debian desktop, and it seems that when I reboot not everything is restarted. Because when I powered all the way down, then restarted, dsl came up in X without any problem.
