On my last boot into dsl everything was perfect. I installed Linspire 4.5 on hda9 (dsl is on hda10). Messed around in Win98SE a little while, restarted DamnSmall, no icons. I right click & hit 'Fully Enhanced Desktop", "Icons Only" or "No Icons" & they flash for just a millasecond, then gone again. How do I get them back? They are still in the ".xtdesktop" folder & I checked to make sure no '.ink' without '.png' or '.gif' with it. Everything is matched up. I need help to get the icons back. Thanks for your time & trouble.

try running 'xtdesk' from a terminal and see if you get any errors.
It seems like ANY little glitch in a single lnk file can cause it to halt, even the smallest typo. You might also check to see if you have any backup lnk files in that directory which point to non-existent files.

I'll give that a try. If anything else, I have a complete backup of all my linux drives on my Windows storage drive. I have around 65G to play with, so I back up everything. I'll just have to put the links for firefox & thunderbird in the backup folder. I haven't backed it up since installing them. Thanks again. :;):

I've got the icons back. Replaced original with backuup & re-installed Firefox & T-Bird. Now I can't get the desktop to remember the positions I put them in. I restart & they are lined up like first boot, with a blank spot where Dillo should be. I deleted that link. Any ideas what to change to get it to remember again?? Thanks for your time & trouble.
