In DSL, I read that the refresh is 60hz.
Less than 72 is not good for the eyes.
Can I install XFree86.dsl, create a XF86Config-4 file with Henk1955's 'generic?' vesa or framebuffer (which one?) scripts, and in addition? perhaps install my display driver (S3 Savage IX, Savage 4.0.3 binary.tgz.)
Or is it not that simple?
All I want to achieve is 72+hz & not be taxing my hardware.
Any replies will be most appreciated. andy.

The video card decides what refresh rate it wants to use. Try different screen resolutions and color depths, some resolutions may use a higher refresh rate than others.

dear andy,

i had the same 60Hz nightmare for very long time, and recently have solved it by installing XFree86 and nvidia drivers (because i have nvidia card). so here's what i did:

1. install XFree86 (via myDSL browser)
2. copy one of default config files to /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
3. modify the file (i have deleted resolutions which i will never use, and changed max. refresh rate to 75
4. shutdown X
5. startx

i think thats all what i did. it worked for me so i hope it will for you.

good luck!

oh, and there was one other file...  /home/dls/.xserverrc
mine looks like this:

exec /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 -nolisten tcp

thats all i think :)

I believe you can use the xfree86.dsl from the mydsl browser under 'System'.
