I'm running a hard drive install of DSL 1.4, but I can't seem to get the x-server to display anything on the screen.  It doesn't give any errors, I just get a blank screen.  I can still kill it with ctrl+alt+backspace and go back to the command line without any troubles.  I stuck in an off-brand card that I don't even know the make of, and it worked without any trouble.

Is this an issue with ATI cards in general, or what?

I use DSL with a Radeon 9600XT card that is built by ATI and it works fine with the default VESA 1024x768x32bit resolution upon bootup.

Grab a livecd or pendrive and play around with the boot commands and you might be able to get it working.  Here are a few examples to try at the boot prompt:

dsl xsetup

dsl noagp xsetup

fb1024x768

fb800x600

fb1024x768 noagp

fb800x600 noagp

Good Luck.
