Hooookayyyy...

Booted from DSL CD.

Got a nice picture of a penguin. It went through all the right sort of checks and scans, until...

xauth: creating new authority file /home/dsl/.xauthority

giving up

xinit: No such file or directory (Errno2): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (Errno2): Server error

Then it gave me a command prompt line. Any ideas? What's a boy to do?

Not sure, but you may want to try the CD on another PC.  Did you do the chksum on the download?

different computers require different types of x server, and also different x settings. What type of computer are you using?

3rd world computer  :)   PII 333Mhz 64MB

I've made progress.  Looking through the forum, I figured that xsetup.sh might be 'A Good Idea'.  Did this.  Then startx...

Result.  Desktop.  Immediately overlaid  by an html page I couldn't move my mouse on.

Ran xsetup gain.  Got the right mouse port by trial and error.  Still got the .html page, though.  I figure there's probably a desktop behind there somewhere.  Can't close it, though.

Next step...try changing the screen resolution, so at least I get the Close box? ???

Hold down the ALT key and use the mouse to drag the window down until you can see the CLOSE box.
