Quote (dslflo @ Jan. 16 2006,05:59) | I am quite new to DSL and Linux. I used the latest version to built a system with a CF card as hda1, a HDD with 3 partitions as hdb1-hdb3 (swap, /opt,/home). After frugal install everything runs fine. Simply great. Still one question: This box runs 24/7. However most of the time its waiting for a user request. How can I make the HDD to spin down while idle? Thanks for the great DSL! |
Hello dslflo: I am a new dsl user as well.
Two days ago I installed the latest dsl on my old P166 CF-25 laptop. It would be great to be able to put the drive on this machine into hibernation mode. The power manager that I have on my Ubuntu machine works very well. I am wondering if it would be possible to install something using apt-get.
I found this thread when doing a forum search.

but it would require building a new kernel I think.
Although I have built some software from source I am not an advanced Linux user and have never compliled a new kernel. Any hints tips or comments would be apppreciated.
