I am new to linux. I am running DSL from Live CD. I want to set the Home and Opt directory to point to a local partition.

Can someone please tell me how I can do it?

When you see the "Boot:" prompt, type this:

dsl home=hdXX opt=hdXX

where "hdXX" is the partition. The first time you do this, DSL will copy /opt and /home/dsl to this partition, if it's a writeable partition. If it's not writeable (NTFS, for example), you can expect some serious problems. Ideally, the partition should be reiserfs (in my opinion, anyway, reiserfs is much less prone to corruption than ext2 or fat).
