I want to make a new CD that will have all of my settings preloaded so that I can boot from any computer anywhere, and not have to load any settings from a harddrive.  I.e. a custom theme, custom icon, bookmarks etc.  Also a few additional extensions here and there saved.  From research I've learned that 'mkmydsl' is probably the best way to do this.

First - does "mkmydsl" just refer to the built-in "Make myDSL CD remaster" option located in the Apps->Tools section?  Thats what I have assumed.

Second - I havn't had a problem with extensions.  I simply save them in a directory like "home/dsl/mycustom' and then enter that directory when prompted during the make my dsl wizard.
It's the custom settings like background I'm having a hard time with.  The first time I tried I simply made all of my changes and then went through the wizard.  I ended up making a CD with my selected extensions, but everything else was default.  So I tried again, this time adding things to .filetool.lst
(Note: this whole .filetool.lst thing is still throwing me off.  I have no idea how it works or how to use it correctly.  I've looked at a million forums, but apparently this thing is supposed to be common sense.)
This is how I 'added things to .filetool.lst' :  Whenever I made a change [like deleting/adding icons and changing the background] I would find the .fluxbox/ in emelfm.bin and then click "Add2Filetool."  Or other changes [like changing bookmarks and the homepage in firefox] I would find .mozilla/ in emelf and click "Add2filetool"
I did all this and tried burning another CD.  ...same thing as the first try.  All my extensions were just fine, but the settings went back to default.
Instead of wasting more time customizing everything then saving it all wrong I was hoping someone could give me some advice as to where exactly I'm going wrong.
Again - I don't want to involve a hard drive through this process.  I would like to do everything through RAM (I have more than enough to spare) and I would like for my finished product to have all of my settings set to default.  So when I boot from this new CD I don't have the same default background staring at me and multiple useless icons cluttering my desktop.

Much thanks in advance.
