I've been searching the net, DSL forums, wiki, etc and couldn't find the answer to my questions.

Anyway, this may be a bit too specific, but I'll give it a shot. I don't know how many people in here are familiar with LabVIEW and GE's "vme_universe" VME-chassis memory access software, but these are what I'm trying to get installed into DSL to run on various VME single-board computers.

I've been able to get a LabVIEW run-time engine for linux installed and my 'built' LabVIEW application running on DSL.  I'm still in the process of learning how to create a new iso image.

My main problem is with the vme_universe software.  In order to use it, I have to have the kernel source code installed to build the modules I need.  This requires the use of "make" commands which don't seem to work in DSL (do I have to install gcc?).

As my username implies, I'm a linux novice.  I've been able to create this setup on a USB HDD with Mandrake 10.1, but want to do a version with DSL because of it's ability to run completely in RAM with a GUI (needed for LabVIEW apps).

If anybody could get me pointed in the right direction, I'd be grateful.  If nobody can help, it can't be done in DSL, I understand and thanks anyway.

There has been a long discussion about remastering here so try your search under that term. FYI, I believe you need to download the gnu-utilities package and probably the dbpkg package as well to get the full set of remastering tools.

Gotcha, will do.

All of the searches I did (net, wiki, etc) were before I registered.  I registered to make the post. I guess I should have searched first.  Sorry.
