I am looking for a linux distro to use on a roll out of some 300 epos tills. The till application will probably be developed in PHP with A SQLite database running under a minimal local web server. The SQLite data will be synchronised to a remote web server via a wireless link to a router.
The tills will run X windows and start with a browser in kiosk mode to the local web based aplication runnning. The system will boot from a compact flash card on an IDE connector or usb key.
They will need to be writing the SQLite data somewhere local in case they get switched off, so they can continue when restarted (maybe a writable partition on the compact flash).
Any advice or guideance would be greatly appreciated on this.
PS I have been a linux user of Debian and Ubuntu for several years now.
