It's "non-dsl", meaning you are not user "dsl". The myDSL system was designed to work simply and easily in a liveCD, which is typically run as user dsl. The ability for a regular user to click and install an application package is somewhat unusual if you are accustomed to the traditional method of first logging in as root, but it is meant to be an easy and effective way to expand DSL. The actual installation of files is done as root, using the sudo command, but the user doesn't have to manually su. If you have a traditional debian-style hardrive install, and feel the need to be root or other user, apt-get and dpkg are available for installing deb packages.
