Ok, I did search the forum but could not find a solution.
I think this shoulb be easy, I followed the getting_started.html file but maybe I don't get it.

I'm using dsl on an old laptop with no HD, runs fine, I'd just like to save my config on a compact flash card (hde1), I hit backup and I can see the backup file written in the CF but when I reboot, or I just try to restore, nothing happens,I see the restoring backup procedure during the boot, and I see a lag if I press the restore button when dsl is loaded but again I don-t see my settings restored.
The backup.tar.gz is about 6 Mb. The .filetool.lst seems to look as it should.

Any idea?

Also, what parameters are supposed to be saved in the backup? For instance, bookmarks, installed themes, installed applications, what happens to them? ARe they saved?

If your backup is not being saved to the same partition that holds the DSL system, you will probably need to add "dsl restore=hde1" to your bootloader's configuration file.

The backup contains whatever you want it to. The files and directories listed in /home/dsl/.filetool.lst will be added to it, and the strings listed in .xfiletool.lst will be ignored. In the default setup, practically everything in /home/dsl will be saved.

Adding "dsl restore=hde1" solved the problem, as long as few things are saved after I reboot I'm happy with it :-) thank you

I wish my laptot could boot from usb, mybe I could use one of those CF to ide adapter.

i have an old laptop too, so i just do a frugal. it makes it a breeeze to configure and to up date as well...
