Quote | I put the CD in my computer and it didn't boot up, it had these two penguins on the screen for about 3 minutes before I shut it off and tried again with the same results. Then I checked the md5sums and they matched. |
Information from Wiki:
Quote | SOME COMPUTERS HAVE DIFFICULTY BOOTING FROM A CD-RW DISK If you have problems, it is suggested that you burn DSL to a CD-R disk instead of a CD-RW disk. |
Quote | Can I put the CD in my normal computer and copy one file onto the floppy, copy it over, and do that again? What if files are too big to fit on the floppy? |
Read the Wiki Documentation to know about other install methods:Documentation. Following Articles: -Floppy Only Install (No Netcard, Linux Only) -Floppy Only Install (No Netcard, Windows Required) -Floppy Only Install with Netcard (Poormans Install)
However I believe this method may be better for you: Extract the hard disk from old computer, to insert it onto another computer so using the method explained by cbagger01 you can copy the KNOPPIX folder. Then you connect the hard disk on old computer again. Insert the boot floppy and boot the computer. That launch DSL using the file onto hard disk as well as DSL boot from CDROM. Therefore, DSL was not installed to hard disk but will run "live mode" from RAM memory.
