Hi all!

I´m new to DSL but I really really love it!

I tried to remaster my own version for more than 10 times with several HOWTOs, most of them based on MEO´s HOWTOs.

But in every case I get the problem: I do not get a X-Server. When I boot from my CD I get a login promt and after login the X-Server tries to start but ends with this message:

giving up.
xinit:  No such file or directory (errno 2):  unable to connect to X server
xinit:  No such process (errno 3):  Server error.

When I try startx I get the same error.
I found some hints that the message could appear when there is not enough memory but I have 256MB and the original CD and the installed version works fine.
When I start the vncserver and connect from another pc everything works fine as well.

Can anybody help please?
Thanks
Steve

Can you paste out your whole output when you hit startx?  It might reveal something...

Hi steve986!

Do you have a swap-partition? It is needed if making a remaster otherwise it can't build properly.

Have fun (and hope it works out),

Hi Meo, hi all!

I´m really happy! It runs!  :)
I set up a swap partition and now it works fine. Thanks!
