Hi. I just dled DSL. I burned it to a data cd but it won't boot :( Should I have done a bootable because bootable is an option but it asks me to choose a bootable cd type and gives me these options:

Floppy Disk Emulation (1.44mb)
Floppy Disk Emulation (2.88mb)
Hard Disk Emulation
No Emulation

Then it has a box and beside the box it says Load Segment then in the box it says Ox7c0 and another box and beside that it says Sector Count and the number 1 is in it.

In emulation options it gives me the choices of generating an image from a floppy disk in drive A and clicking ok.

or

Use existing image file.

By the way I'm using Windows XP Home with Roxio Easy CD Creator. Thanks guys :)

I bet you burned the ISO file to the CD as a data file, not an IMAGE file.

the file you downloaded is an IMAGE of the DSL CD.

I believe you need to click on Tools in EasyCD and then create a cd from an image file.

I find that this task is easier with Nero Express from ahead software:

Nero Express

Good luck!

Ok when I go to create a bootable cd it asks me to choose from the drop down list of emulations, which should I choose?

Floppy Disk Emulation (1.44mb)
Floppy Disk Emulation (2.88mb)
Hard Disk Emulation
No Emulation

Then it has a box and beside the box it says Load Segment then in the box it says Ox7c0 and another box and beside that it says Sector Count and the number 1 is in it. Should I do anything to these?

As you can see I'm a doofus w/ this. I did burn a bootable cd but this computer, the windows xp computer wouldnt try to boot it but the other which is a 450 mhz hp pavilion with windows 98 attempted it but it only came to a black screen with the white underline blinking doing nothing.

I have Mandrake Linux, not installed yet, but I want to give Linux a spin before I install it in the future and get used to it so that when I go into Mandrake it'll be an easy process.

You don't need to create a bootable CD.. The ISO image has the boot image on it already.

From Roxio
3. To Write the ISO file to a Blank CD using Creator Classic

a. Insert a blank CD-R/CD-RW disc into your CD Recorder drive

b. Locate and left click "File" in the upper left hand corner of the screen, then click on "Record disc from image..."

c. This will display a "Record disc from image file" window. Go to the location on your hard drive where the image is located and highlight it by left clicking on it.

d. Click on the "Open" button

e. This will display a "Record Setup" window, click on the "OK" button to beginning writing the ISO file to the Blank CD

f. After the record process is completed the files can now be accessed on CD

Hopefully this helps!
