Hi,

Long time since i played with DSL, but now have a small problem.

last time i used it, mounting my hd was easy, can't remember had to be root to do so.

Problem, if i mount the hard disc as root, cannot have  access to any file out of the terminal.

Did i something wrong, or did i miss something ??

It could be just the syntax you used to mount the drive.
If you use the device name, filesystem type, and mountpoint, I think it is mounted with default options, which means only root can mount, and only root can access.  As far as I know, fstab is not read in this situation.
If you specify only a mountpoint or device, as long as it is listed in /etc/fstab, i think options are read from fstab, which should allow normal user access.

I'm just guessing here...seems like i've run into similar situations in the past.

Hi Milkshaw,

The syntax i used to mount the device was :

mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1 ( /mnt/hda1 was already created ) ... you mean i should only try :
mount /dev/hda1                            ??

i dont remember using that before, can't even mount floppy drive as user.

/etc/fstab is ok as far as i know, "users" being specified

Do you have any issues using the mount.app tool in the dockapps toolbar?

You shouldn't have to "root" to anything for it to work ..

Let us know..

Hi, thanks to you both for replying.

Once again has been a long time since i used DSL !!

Milkshaw, you were right, using mount /dev/hda1 as syntax solved my problem.

Ke4nt1, of course the tool in the dockapps is working, but i wanted to do  "the command line" this time, and wanted to know why it was not working.

Thanks again
