I use torsmo and Xplanet and sometimes i need to kill torsmo because i want to enjoy the view that Xplanet gives me (background image of Earth)
I kill torsmo like this (with a hotkey) killall -9 torsmo
After doing this torsmo is still on my screen (just the process has been killed! NOT THE LEFTOVERS)

To clean the screen i need a simple application that i can run when i need to refresh the screen

(right now i just run xplanet again after killing torsmo so that it overwrites the leftovers from torsmo but this is a not so pretty solutions i think)

You could also run torsmo in a transparent window instead of in the root window (torsmo -o).  It appears the same, but you can move the window and close it from toolbar with no leftovers.
