Hi all!

I've tried to install dsl on a DiskOnkey 128Mb usb pendrive, but after many tries I must admit I've failed to do so.

Here is how I proceeded (I found this process on the forum) :
1. plugin the usb pendrive : ok this one is easy ;-)
2. boot from DSL 0.8.1.1 cdrom : ok
3. At the system menu select Shells->root-access : ok
4. wget http://ibiblio.org/pub.....tar.gz : skip this one but have frugual_usb.tar.gz on hard disk instead and mounted it
5. mydsl-load frugual_usb.tar.gz : ok
6. frugal_usb.sh :
First try : pb because it's said number of sectors is not a multiple of number of sectors per track! So I recreated a partition of type 6 with less than 1024 cylinders and 32 sectors per track/
Second try : ok, scripts went to the end saying it's ok.

7 - reboot with usb stick plugged in and in BIOS set to USB-HDD (and also USB-keyboard set to enabled otherwise it won't work).

It detects my key but it says something like 'No operating Sytem found' and stop there.

I'v also tried the menu with install on usb pendrive but it doesn't do anything, it seems that a window is opened and closed immediatly so I have no info on the problem.

Thanks in advance for your help

Maybe you could do this: get the new DSL 0.8.2.  Make the live-cd, boot it, use the menu (right mouse click) to Apps -> Tools -> Install to usb pendrive...

My usb-stick (sandisk mini cruzer 128 Mb) works just fine.. So can yours..

Firefox (Mozilla 1.06)
WM -biff  -cdplay -clockmon -smixer -usic -top -net -biff -ifinfo -cpuload
gps vnc LinNeighborhood (samba) QtParted bdc

If you can't get your USB drive formatted in a way that it will be recognized, try using the Dell Memkey utility mentioned in this thread by me:

You may be able to run the utility and then try the standard DSL USB installation process.  This utility will reformat just about any USB drive in a way that will make it bootable.

Also, you could try the FreeDOS/Loadlin/DSL dual-bootable USB drive approach if you prefer.

Hitcher,
Can you set your bios to boot from USB-ZIP ?
That should do the trick..

Leave your USB Keyboard enabled..
Sometimes I see USB Legacy as an option, enable it.

Thanks guys for your help.
It worked!

I had to use all of your advices  :D
- format the key with the Dell Memkey utility
- use dsl iso 0.8.2
- and set Boot to USB-ZIP instead of USB-HDD

(The only thing I'm not sure about is if the fact to use 0.8.2 instead of 0.8.1.1 has changed anything, I haven't tested all combinations   :p )

Time to go further and to look how to personalize my session!
