I want to use DSL in an old laptop without CD with 64Mb Ram and a single HD of 500Mb partialy used with windows
I know it works I made an 'poors man install' I copied .dsl stuff I want laptop has and all seems to go ok But problem is with filetool.lst I cannot use same HD for backup my configuration so I only can use a floppy and floppy is very small so I guess if should be possible to create one (or two for swapping) pseudo-partitions using UMSDOS method for backup/restore purpose Perhaps I must create a umsdos.dsl application loaded before restore process starts Has somebody tried this? Else is there another way to backup/restore configuration with only one HD and no CD unit?
Tks!

Why not use a program like parted, qtparted, partition magic, etc..
and shrink your 500 meg partition down by 10-20 megs..
Then make a second partition with the free space, format it as a
FAT16 drive, then both DSL and windows can use the space...

Even better, if you can,
shrink it down by 70-80 megs,
Use 10-20 megs of that as your backup partition,
and use the remaining 60 megs of space for a swap partition...
That effectively doubles your ram...

mmmm good idea! but I don't know if my wife the owner of the laptop will permit it to me LOL
The 2nd option:I shrink said 70 Mb fat16 or fat32 ok I can backup the linux files but...how to do a swap particion in a fat16 or 32 partition? My own machine has a swap partition but it was created as swap partition and every linux I try (Knoppix DSL Debian Suse etc) recognices it witout any kind of care Is possible use a fat partition as linux swap?
Tks!

Other way perhaps working: What about use Knoppix cd for creating a swapper file Perhaps DSL recognizes and uses it? mmm when return home I'll try it!
