It may be best to upgrade to 0.7.1 for using .dsl extensions. 0.7.1 includes the myDSL button in Emelfm, which makes loading .dsl files very easy, simply 1 click, and they install.
With 0.7.0 , you can use the terminal, and enter "mydsl-load" , which brings up a form to enter the "path to .dsl" file .. click OK to install..
This is assuming your running from LiveCD ..
If you run from HDInstall, with 0.7.1, you can now use the same feature to install .dsl extensions to your DSL permanently.
As far as backing up the installed extension, it's possible on an application basis only... For example, Firefox backs up easily to backup.tar.gz (file restoration) by adding the /opt/firefox and /home/damnsmall/.phoenix string to your filetool.lst in your backup area. But many other .dsl files write to many different places, making a backup of the installed .dsl unpractical. Think of your .dsl file AS your backup, since it is simply a copy of the files installed to a DSL system anyway. Your 1 click away from having it availiable on your liveCD. If you need to backup saves or data, simply add the directory associated with the files (usually under damnsmall, like .xine, .mplayer, .xgalaga, etc.) to your filetool.lst. They'll be there next time, after you restore from backup ...
