1. Somehow I've managed to kill my icons. How do I get them back? I clicked on menu item [ icons/align ] and the icons appear for less than a second then disappear again.

2. How secure is DSL? Are iptables already configured?

Thanks.

A possibility with the icons is that one of the links is broken - have you installed or edited any other programs with icons?
If the desktop system comes across an icon link it can't handle, for some reason no icons will display.  You'll get the "flash" like you've described, where it goes through and loads the icons from the links, until it hits whatever it doesn't like and then it'll spit the dummy.
Go through any new icon links (/home/dsl/.xtdesktop/) and double check that they point to an actual icon image.

Dunno about the second one.

More specifically,

Open emelfm.  Press the "H" button so that you can view hidden files and directories.  Then go into the .xtdesktop directory.

One-by-one, right click on each *.lnk file and choose User -> View in Beaver.
Then look at the name/location for the icon file.

Then go back to emelfm and make sure that the real icon file is there and the spelling is EXACTLY correct.  If not, fix the mistake and save the file.

If you want to temporarily get rid of that *.lnk file, you can just rename it to something else like *.lnk.old

Then restart the icons/align and things should start working again unless you have multiple bad *.lnk files

It is also possible that your icon files themselves are corrupted.  You can double click on them from emelfm in order to view them and see if they are OK.
