I finally got the lpd drivers and the CUPS wrapper installed for my Brother MFC420CN printer. When I tell CUPS admin to print a test page, it creates the job and claims that the job completed right after it is submitted, but nothing comes out on the printer. The same printer works fine as a networked printer from Windows, which is on a different PC.
BTW, CUPS Admin always says that the job was completed 6 hours after the time that it was submitted. I thought that CUPS might be using Greenwich time, but that should be 9 hours different from California. It's not a problem as long as it doesn't have anything to do with the failure to print.
