Hi, do I need an additional driver for my hp600 printer?
The drivers from DSL do not seem to work.

i configured the printer with "apsfilter".
The generic asci driver works but with errors. It prints only one line of the test-page und it pulls unlimited sheets of paper until i shut down the printer.

I changed to lpt (I think /dev/lp0), to A4, 300dpi, gray, auto and gave it a name (lp). I tried it several times so there are more than names listed (the others are aps, aps1 ...).

May I delete the other names as aps1, aps2...?

Should I use another driver? There is one. It is called HPIJS from www.LinuxPrinting.org (I do not need colours and 300dpi would be fine).

Can I use another config tool like "CUPS"? I heard this should work well.

did you try giving a proper name to the printer :  hp600 seems ok to me.

You will be asked to test the printer, and then to keep the conf.

You should then start the printing process ( think is print > start ) using the gui.

You propably left the process before completing it.

Should work !!

Yesterday I found the key.

First I deleted all the "lp", "aps", "aps1 ... in /opt/apsfilter/ and in the other folder (I do not know it's name anymore). Afterwards I was happy the system still worked because I do not know what I am doing when using linux (it's funny as root)

Then "I compiled the newest hpijs driver from www.linuxprinting.org, checked them with apsfilter and now it works. The hp600 drivers from the 0.8.0 iso did not work at all for me.
