when opening xpaint on a large (2d size) image file, it fills the the whole screen with it's canvas window. I can slide the size
vertically but xpaint still maximizes the whole screen.

Does anyone know;
how to reduce this canvas size so I can get to the menu ?
any shortcut keys to un-maximize the canvas or kill xpaint?

Try holding the alt key and left button on mouse to move the whole thing with your mouse till you can see the menu.
