Ted is one of those apps that I hardly looked at until recently when I checked it out as a reader.  Large books from gutenberg loaded instantly with excellent formating.  Change the font, save in rtf format, and it even saves bookmarks (try that in oo). Load book with a script to "ted /path/book".
