I'm a big fan of backing up systems using Norton Ghost type applications.  A friend pointed me to an open-source hard-drive cloning tool.  Curious if anybody here has tried it and what feedback they have.

The product is called G4L (Ghost For Linux)

I know that DSL has a great backup system... I don't want to taklk about that.  I want to discuss G4L.

Thanks.

Clonezilla, based on DRBL, Partition Image, ntfsclone, and udpcast, allows you can massively clone many (40 plus!) computers simultaneously. Unlike G4U (Ghost for Unix) or G4L (Ghost for Linux), Clonezilla saves and restores only used blocks in the harddisk. This increases the clone effiency. At the NCHC's Classroom C, Clonezilla was used to clone 41 computers simultaneously. It took about 50 minutes to clone a 5.6 GBytes system image to all 41 computers via unicasting and only about 10 minutes via multicasting!

This is a good selling point for me.

Have you used both?

Do you think either can be built for DSL?

I'm experienced at compiling projects on Windows, but have yet to compile my first Linux project.
