I have a HD install on a Toshiba 2595CDT laptop. I have down loaded Abiword as a package file. How do I install it? Do I just run it from root?

You can put it where ever you have designated for mydsl or in the optional directory if you have one.  In my setup I have mydsl pointed to hda2 and hda1 contains the DSL kernal.  When I first downloaded it I moved it from /tmp to the root of hda2 and it would automatically install when I booted up.  Later I moved it to /mnt/hda2/optional where I appears as a menu item and I can call it in if I want to.  It works great.
