I just purchased "Linux Pocket Guide by Barrett, Daniel J." and wanted to know if any of you have it or what you think of it. I wanted a fairly cheap book that I could learn alot about linux from. It had pretty good reviews and I picked it up for under $10 so I figured it was a good buy.

I use my copy a lot. The explanations are clear, and once you know the function exists you can go on google and get more information. I found reading through it gave me a good overview of linux and I learned new tricks. It isn't complete, but it is a great start.

So many of the books I read are so "distro" specific,
or "topic" specific, like a language, of an application..

This one is a nice reference to keep closeby,
to quickly get a glance at more general information..
( cli tools and options, etc.. )

Although it admits to be biased to Fedora, its description of the command-line tools (practically 95% of the book) is distro-neutral. This book plus Google will get you quite far.

Well I received my book the other day and I really like it. They were able to put alot of info in this very small book. It does have that small part on Fedora, but as someone already pointed out almost all of it is neutral. I really hope this will help me out. I do wonder whats with the cowboy on the front cover though.
